我是个外国人,英国的。 现在在中国工作。我上大学时见到好多中国人,他们留给我的些印象是:
1. Polite / shy. When the Chinese students interacted with the locals, it was usually just simple conversation and they were quite friendly. (But when I heard them speak Mandarin, eventhough at the time I didn't understand the language, it was clear that with each other they seemed more natural and 'real' - I guess language barrier was a factor)
2. Different socialising methods. In the UK most students enjoy goin to pubs, bars, or nightclubs... a lot of alcohol is involved, especially during the 1st year. Most chinese students didn't have much interest in this form of socialising, but rather preferred more quiet things like cooking and eating together.
3. Friendship circles. A lot of Chinese students hung out with each other. I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. As a foreigner living in China I understand that it can be daunting movin to a new country alone, and so hanging out with people from the same background makes life more convenient and can help deal with homesickness.
4. Money. The Chinese students I encountered were a bit more laid back with their money. In my flat, the 2 chinese students always ate out at restaurants. A few students in my course even bought cars durin their last year of university.
EDIT: 我现在在一个高中的国际班教书,学生们都准备出国留学。分享一下我的体验:
So I've noticed major differences between the lives of teenagers in the West compared to China. For example, here school is from 7 40am to very late in the evening, and there is a lot more pressure on students here too, parents have higher expectations. The little time that students do have to socialise may be spent at places like a hot pot restaurant, or KTV.
My time at university had allowed me to see the life of chinese students after they moved. My current work allows me to see their lives while still in this country. It's given me a more rounded view of 中国的留学生. I think if I was back at university in the UK I definitely would've done more to accommodate Chinese students and make them feel welcome, perhaps used a different approach. |
