Chicago-based giant CME Group saw August trading volumes flat on last year as the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and the main US equities options market reported solid volume growth in August. The Chicago exchange CME Group averaged 15.9 million contracts per day in August, which was consistent on the same month last year and up 18% from July this year. Sydney-based ASX saw daily futures volumes in August increase 18% from the previous year to hit 10,471,168 lots as its year-to-date performance was down 4%.The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC), the US equity options market, cleared 433,740,316 contracts in August, up 10% compared to the previous year’s volume of 395,912,022. Its year-to-date average daily cleared contract volume was up 19%, totalling 20,321,325 contracts.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Singapore Exchange (SGX) today announced a collaboration to develop Delivery versus Payment (DvP) capabilities for settlement of tokenised assets across different blockchain platforms. This will allow financial institutions and corporate investors to carry out simultaneous exchange and final settlement of tokenised digital currencies and securities assets, improving operational efficiency and reducing settlement risks.
